Year in Review - Our Favorite Things in 2015

2015 was filled with nonstop bike awesomeness and 2016 is going to be even better. Before we step into the New Year, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of our favorite moments from 2015.

Worlds 2015

Every now and then we stop to daydream about the moment when Peter Sagan lit the fuse and attacked the 23rd Street cobbles, breaking away and giving Richmond and the World an amazing finish to a magical week of cycling.

The racing, the behind the scenes look at pro teams, the parties - Worlds gave Richmond and its visitors a front row seat to the best of the best in cycling. But more than that it was a catalyst for cycling advocacy and development in Richmond. We may not see an event like Worlds again any time soon, but its impact will affect us for years to come.

Virginia Capital Trail & Richmond's Booming Bike Infrastructure

With the Capital Trail finally open, and ground broken on several other road and trail infrastructure projects, it's no surprise that Richmond is now being touted as a go-to destination for cyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts.

With miles of sharrows, bike lanes and paths now accessible and more and more trails and park systems being developed each day, Richmond has something for every rider and every experience.

Carytown Bicycle Co. at Westchester Commons

2015 marked our 8th year as an independently owned and operated bike shop, and our decision to venture outside of our namesake neighborhood and expand into the Southside was exciting and scary all at the same time.

We anxiously opened the doors to our second location this past Spring and the Southside cycling community immediately welcomed us with open arms. We're happy to call our Westchester Commons location our second home and 2016 looks to be a big year for CBC and all of our customers.

Cannondale Road Bikes

We've been long time fans of Cannondale bikes and their fantastic offerings in the road market. Their CAAD series has been unbeatable in performance and price, the Synapse has been tried and true in endurance road, and the SuperSix EVO has continually delivered the kind of performance and ride quality that would take any pro peloton rider to the top of the podium. It's no surprise that 2015 brought a refreshed line up of Cannondale road that does more than continue their legacy of quality – it builds on it.

The new CAAD12 is faster and more compliant than the previous CAAD10, offering the same high-end performance in a race-ready bike under $2000. The Synapse saw the introduction of disc-equipped models and a new carbon layup that added even more comfort and compliance to a bike that was already very plush. The SuperSix EVO was redesigned to add more balance to a bike that was already one of the lightest and fastest on the market. With improved compliance, aerodynamics, weight, and stiffness, the new EVO delivers an all around performance and comfort that made it easy for VeloNews to name it their 2015 Road Bike of the Year.

Specialized Mountain & Apparel

Cannondale surprised us with all new road lineup in 2015, and Specialized did something very similar in the MTB and Apparel department. Their redesign of their flagship StumpJumper, their expanded lineup of Women's Specific models, and the introduction of more 650b and Plus size tires showed Specialized is not resting on their laurels.

The Camber in 29" and 650b" models gave us an all around mountain biker's mountain bike. Something that was highly capable, confident and efficient when climbing peaks or bombing descents. Bikes like the Fuse / Ruse, and the new StumpJumper with 650+ tires have extended Specialized's MTB lineup offering more choices to the rider looking for a confidence inspiring bike that will take on any trail. Specialized continues to evolve their SWAT lineup with new cages, tools, apparel and even stow compartments built directly into the downtubes of their carbon bikes.

Specialized has also found the way to our hearts through their expanded selection of apparel and accessories. Their Deflect series for men and women offers exceptional technical wear for the money, and their ever-changing selection of shoes, helmets and other accessories offer an excellent range of products for every rider.

Yeti Cycles

Yeti is the newest member of our bike family and a brand that fits our cult better than most. They describe themselves in ways that we can relate to. 'A devotion to building and riding bikes,' 'Pretty simple philosophy. We build bikes we want to ride.'

Okay, we are into all of that.

With an R&D process that utilizes years of experience in Enduro riding, but a philosophy that guarantees a balanced bike for even the 'weirdest' places, Yeti is committed to making bikes that are not just for racers, but for heart and soul mountain bikers.

A Final Word to Our Fans, Friends and Family

We'd like to thank each and every CBC customer and supporter who made all of this possible in 2015. It is your passion and love for cycling that drives us to continually seek ways to improve your riding experience. 2016 will be no different. Happy New Year.
